On the wake of a very successful last edition, Opera on ice will leave a mark on Christmas 2012, too.

The 2013 edition date is already set: worldwide ice-skating champions will put up a show at the Arena di Verona on September 28, performing the most famous opera arias.
After the experience gathered over the last two editions and given the high demand for tickets, the organizers decided to advance the sale of tickets for the third edition just before Christmas. As of December 15, Opera on Ice 2013 tickets will be on sale on ticketone (www.ticketone.it), the perfect gift for all ice-skating and opera fans.
The promotional offer will end on January 15, 2013.

The strong tie between ice-skating and Christmas is confirmed by Opera on ice 2012, a family show, having been broadcast on television. On Tuesday, December 25, at 5.10 pm, Alfonso Signorini and Costanza Calabrese will present the magic of Carolina Kostner, Evgeni Plushenko, Shizuka Arakawa, Stéphane Lambiel and the other international ice-skating stars on Canale 5.
 
The audience will sample the magic atmosphere that won the hearts of 12,000 people attending at the Arena di Verona on September 22. They will enjoy the special Carolina Kostner and Stéphane Lambiel combo, for the first time together, accompanied by the notes of “Je veux vivre”, an aria taken from ''Romeo et Juliette'', Gounod’s famous opera set in Verona.
Viewers may also see the marvellous costumes, made for the occasion by “Il Costume-Roma-Verona” and inspired to 1968 Zeffirelli’s “Romeo e Giulietta” models. The music performance is also noteworthy and features your opera talents, supported by the 200-strong Fondazione Arena di Verona choir and orchestra, directed by the incredible Maestro Fabio Mastrangelo.

And most importantly, Carolina Kostner, the promoter and protagonist of the event, will also be there: “Performing in Opera on Ice, to the sound of the amazing Arena di Verona choir and orchestra, – said Kostner – was an unimaginable thrill and a true honour. I am very happy that it will be broadcast on television. It is a unique show that can truly show how spectacular this sport can be. Since I took part in Opera on ice I have grown to love and appreciate opera, by listening to it. Thus I have learnt to appreciate absolute masterpieces such as Il Trovatore”.

Evgeni Plushenko, Russian champion, star and worldwide skating icon shares the same opinion: “It was one of the most positive and extraordinary experiences I’ve ever had. The adrenaline was off the charts and the cast was unparalleled. This event has proven that figure skating is not merely a sport, but true art, ballet, and acrobatic feats. Add the fantastic choir and orchestra in the largest open-air theatre in the World and you have quite a show”.

Verona, 26^th September 2012. Opera on Ice worked its magic again this year, and on Saturday night the Verona Arena was a full house. The 12,000 spectators enjoyed the skating show of the great champions that enthralled the public with as many as 3 encores.

The many people who had been queuing up at the entrances since early in the afternoon, something that had not happened since the good old times of the opera at the Arena, show that Opera on Ice has fully achieved its goal of bringing young people closer to opera through skating.
