Opera on ice 2012


The ice skating, the most artistic form of sport, merges with the best expressions of music and singing. Everything is concentrated into a single show, scheduled for September 22, 2012, in the largest open-air opera theater in the world, the Arena of Verona: in three words "Opera on Ice".

The show, launched successfully last year, is renewed, keeping the magic formula: the most celebrated champions of figure skating on ice, the orchestra and chorus of the Arena di Verona, and singers of international fame interpret together the most famous opera arias of opera.

In this year's edition, amongst other, arias of the most important Opera programmed at the Arena of Verona opera season in 2013: Aida, Nabucco, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Rigoletto and Romeo and Juliet.

The elegance of the steps, the strength and lightness of the vaulting, the spectacular acrobatics of the athletes, along with the suggestive costumes and lyric singing, give intense emotions to the public through a perfect fusion of music and movement.

For the preparation of audio and lighting technologies those of large international live concerts are utilized, the Arena stage is enlarged and covers part of the theater, while singers, orchestra and choir, more than 200 components are placed on huge platforms behind the ice rink.

After last year's success, some countries like UAE (Oman and Dubai) and Japan have stepped forward to host the event, which as of this year could become itinerant and go on an international tour. In addition, Opera on Ice has already led the Arena di Verona and figure skating in cinemas in 40 countries worldwide.
