OPERA ON ICE 2013

Opera on Ice enchants Verona once again and achieves a third sold-out show

Verona, September 28, 2013 - "So much work, so much effort, some difficulties, but the satisfaction, joy, and magic of tonight are incomparable. Thank you and congratulations." With these words, champion Carolina Kostner, the godmother of Opera on Ice, thanked the show’s organizers on behalf of the entire cast, who once again received unanimous praise from both the audience and critics.

The show was made even more thrilling thanks to several new features: in addition to the stage costumes (with 15 changes) and the top-level cast, the audience gave a long applause for the tribute to Pavarotti in “Nessun Dorma.” The visual impact was further enhanced by the pañolada of 12,000 white handkerchiefs, which set the scene for Stéphane Lambiel's interpretation of Bizet's Carmen. For the grand finale, the audience stood in an Arena illuminated by 12,000 candles with Verdi’s "Triumph of Aida," which, as per tradition, brought the entire cast onto the ice, dressed in costumes inspired by the iconography of Egypt’s pharaohs.

Highlighting the enthusiasm in the Arena was a comment from former Mayor of Verona, Flavio Tosi, who was present at the event: "I have never missed an Opera on Ice show, which I consider the most thrilling of all the events I’ve seen at the Arena so far."
